There’s a political dispute in Trenton over a major public safety issue: City officials are sparring over how to pay for the city’s emergency radio and phone systems. The city council won’t authorize the payment of an outstanding bill of $200,000 to the current service provider. As a result, Trenton’s 911 system is at risk of being shut off at the end of the month.

Meantime, Mayor Reed Gusciora wants to use $4 million of federal COVID-19 relief funds to pay for upgrades to the system. The bickering over what to do comes at a time when crime is on the rise in Trenton.
