In the corruption trial of U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), the defense kicked off its case Monday morning.
On Friday, prosecutors wrapped after seven weeks presenting evidence, and testimony from more than two dozen witnesses, attempting to prove Menendez accepted bribes of cash, gold bars and a luxury car in exchange for using his power and influence to benefit three businessmen and the governments of Egypt and Qatar.
The defense started by focusing on family, calling a sister of the senator to the stand.
Former federal prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni, discusses the defense strategy.
