Few things in recent years have united Democrats and Republicans in Congress the way that TikTok has. The popular social media app has been heavily criticized by members of both parties, who are concerned about the app’s impacts on mental health, its handling of personal data and its ties to the Chinese government.
TikTok’s CEO Shou Zi Chew defended the company at a hearing of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce this week. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6th), the ranking Democrat on the committee, spoke with NJ Spotlight News about how the proceeding went.
