Cycling and pedestrian advocates in New Jersey are taking steps to educate drivers about the Safe Passing Law. The legislation went into effect on March 1 and aims to keep pedestrians, cyclists and other vulnerable groups safe while sharing the road with cars. But advocates say the problem is a lot of drivers don’t know about it.

“We’re really in the midst of a crisis. More and more of our loved ones are dying, especially in our New Jersey roadways. Last year‘s numbers were terrible — 704 fatalities, which is the highest it’s been since 2007,” said Wendy Kukowski, member of Vision Zero NJ Alliance, Families for Safe Streets New Jersey.
