Former cleaning staffers at the American Dream complex in East Rutherford appeared in federal court Thursday arguing against their firing by HSA Cleaning Inc., a contractor at the mall. The two workers and the National Labor Relations Board allege they were fired in retaliation for the workers’ involvement in organizing a union at the mall.
The NLRB brought the case after filing a federal petition against HSA Cleaning, arguing that the termination undermines efforts to form a union. The union, 32BJ SEIU, the largest union which represents property service workers, held a rally last Friday in front of American Dream to highlight the firings.
HSA Cleaning Inc. declined to comment.
