Thousands of vehicles and more than 100 containers have finally been moved off a ship that caught fire in a deadly blaze at Port Newark last month, a milestone in the ongoing salvage efforts. Two Newark firefighters died when responding to the fire aboard the Grande Costa D’Avorio.
The ship remains stable as the cleanup continues, according to the U.S. Coast Guard, which reports that no hazardous materials have been released into the surrounding environment. The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
