Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli is drawing fire from gay rights advocates and supporters of Gov. Phil Murphy, after promising to “roll back” the LGBTQ curriculum now required in public schools. Ciattarelli’s comments were recorded on video during a campaign stop by him at a gun range last month.

Ciattarelli said the curriculum goes too far; he said that if he is elected governor, kindergarteners won’t be learning about “gender ID and sexual orientation”  and sixth graders won’t be learning about “sodomy.” Gay rights advocates are calling the comments “hateful” and “divisive.” Ciattarelli told WNYC it is a parent’s job and not the school district’s to teach mature content.
