Republican candidate for governor Jack Ciattarelli has picked the Morris County sheriff as his lieutenant governor and running mate.

Democrat Mikie Sherrill has yet to make her choice public.

Ciattarelli’s choice of Jim Gannon as his running mate says two things about what the campaign is thinking. One is that Morris County is key to winning the state and that voters there might chose Ciattarelli over Sherrill, who represents the area in the House of Representatives.

“We will repeal the dangerous sanctuary state and restore cooperation between … ICE and law enforcement officers throughout our state,” Gannon said Wednesday. “That’s our commitment. And we’ll take the handcuffs off our police and restore law and order.”

“Nonviolent crime is through the roof across New Jersey,” Ciattarelli said. “Break-ins. Car thefts. Flash mobs on our Jersey Shore? Not under this administration.”

Most polls suggest that affordability is still uppermost on the minds of voters. But law and order was big with the MAGA-friendly law and order vibe in the room for Ciattarelli’s announcement Wednesday.
