Interrupting and talking over each other seemed to be the theme of Wednesday night’s Republican presidential debate, the second of this primary season, and the second that former President Donald Trump skipped.
“Donald, I know you’re watching. You can’t help yourself. You’re ducking these things. And let me tell you what’s going to happen. You keep doing that. No one up here’s going to call you Donald Trump anymore. We’re going to call you Donald Duck,” said former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, one of the candidates on the stage.
Christie has a lot of ground to cover to stay in this race, despite going viral for that callout of Trump, said Republican strategist Chris Russell. “The Donald Duck reference was memorable in the sense that it was a good, canned line and it got some action on Twitter and things of that nature. I think his problem is that it’s not translating into any further movement in the polls,” Russell said.
