There’s a lot of buzz surrounding Atlantic City with Revel Resorts soon to open and a master plan for the city’s tourism district which was recently unveiled by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.
In part two of his interview with Managing Editor Mike Schneider, State Attorney General Jeff Chiesa answered questions about the challenges facing Atlantic City in creating a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors.
He was recently in Atlantic City to meet with law enforcement officials to discuss the Fugitive Safe Surrender Program which is set to begin April 21, and he came away duly impressed with the level of coordination at the local level.
“When I go down to visit, I see all the law enforcement — all the Atlantic City Police department, the Atlantic City Sheriff’s Department, the New Jersey State Police, the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice– all working together incredibly effective.”
Additionally, Chiesa said that the use of sophisticated intelligence to identify places where there are repeated patterns of crime allows law enforcement to effectively allocate their resources.
There has been much talk of developing casinos in other parts of New Jersey to combat gaming competition from nearby states like New York and Pennsylvania. But Chiesa declined to say whether that would create a strain on his department.
In part one of his interview, Chiesa spoke of his disappointment at the rejection of Supreme Court nominee Phillip Kwon. As for the for other nominee, Chiesa praised Bruce Harris as an exceptionally qualified candidate and said he was confident that the Judiciary Committee will give him a chance to talk his extensive legal experience.
He wouldn’t say when the governor would offer up another nominee.
