A spokeswoman for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs says Jennifer Causer is no longer the CEO of the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park. She did not go into details or discuss the circumstances of Causer’s departure. The announcement comes after the discovery of major health and safety violations at the facility, leading to a halt in new admissions. Causer was appointed as CEO in March 2021.
The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Wednesday issued a request for proposals, as it seeks vendors who can provide interim supervisory staff and consulting services at Menlo Park, and consulting services at the Paramus and Vineland veterans homes. Even with these changes, New Jersey’s military veterans are shaken by the events at Menlo Park.
“We thought they were moving in the right direction post COVID this obviously proved to us that it was not. It’s just a shame that the veterans of New Jersey and the most fragile veterans that we have can’t get dignified care,” said Jay Boxwell, head of the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign War. “For many of them this tends to be their final spot to live and it’s a crying shame that our state can’t provide a dignified existence to these most disenfranchised and fragile veterans that we have in New Jersey.”
