Candidates are in the final stretches of the 2023 election season, ramping up campaigns to turn out the vote in these typically low-turnout elections. Early, in-person voting has already begun with Gov. Phil Murphy placing his ballot on Saturday, the first official day of in-person voting. Mail-in ballots can also be submitted now at drop-boxes that are also scattered around each county.

All 120 seats in the state Legislature are on the ballot — the 40-member Senate and 80-member Assembly.

In these final days of campaigning, one campaign issue has picked up steam among Republicans — “parental rights.”

“It is likely going to be a low turnout election because it is an off year,” NJ Spotlight News Education and Child Welfare writer Hannah Gross said. “And in those low-turnout elections, people are generally more concerned about turning out their base. And so for Republicans, that has been focused a lot on parental rights and parental control as an issue to rally the base.”

NJ Spotlight News has information on all candidates running in all 40 of the state’s legislative districts. Voters can find their district as well as key information on voting, including polling places and deadlines.
