As temperatures rose to near 100-degree levels, some residents of Camden public housing say their broken air conditioning went ignored by the Camden Housing Authority, their landlord.
“It’s just like we’re living in hell,” said Kellyann Corbin. “We’re paying to live in hell.”
Many residents say complaints made years ago have routinely been ignored by the Camden Housing Authority, including of broken windows, holes in ceilings and broken appliances.
“They’re lying to us,” said Ose Osorio, who lives in the senior tower at Baldwin’s Run. “They’re lying to me. They’re playing around with me. They do.”
Deloris Barham, who also lives in the senior tower at Baldwin’s Run, said her bathtub has been moldy for three or four years, and despite regular complaints, has not been remediated. Barham said she now bathes in her sink for fear of what exposure to mold could do to her health.
The Camden Housing Authority did not respond to our request for comment.
