Reporting by Kevin Armstrong of NJ Advance Media that accused Camden High School of skirting state recruiting rules to attract high-powered stars from out of town sparked an investigation by the agency that oversees high school sports, the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Camden High School’s boys’ basketball team dominated Group Two basketball in New Jersey last year. It beat opposing public schools by 38 points per game and won the state championship game by 41 points. The state investigation could strip Camden of last year’s title, or make this year’s team ineligible.

The NJSIAA just unveiled a proposal to allow student-athletes the ability to switch teams with no penalty. Under previous rules, any student switching teams would need to provide a change of address form and would then face a 30-day sit-out period during which they couldn’t play their sport. The new rules would allow a one-time transfer without proof of a move or a sit-out period.
