Another company has come forward seeking to build a wind farm off the New Jersey coast. Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind has submitted a bid to build a project 10 to 20 miles off the coastline, between Atlantic City and Barnegat Light. If approved by the Board of Public Utilities, Atlantic Shores would join Ørsted in developing a project that would increase New Jersey’s reliance on clean energy. The BPU is expected to decide on the latest bids next spring.

With a COVID-19 vaccine soon to hit the market, it’s worth mentioning how many New Jersey biotech and pharma companies have played a role in getting us to this point. Debbie Hart, president and CEO of BioNJ, says more than 70 New Jersey companies have been working on coronavirus therapies, treatments, cures and vaccines. Hart also said the path to a COVID-19 vaccine included what she called extraordinary collaboration between companies, academic institutions, and government.

The CEO of the ride-sharing company Uber has written to Gov. Phil Murphy, asking that its drivers receive priority access to the COVID-19 vaccine as essential workers. Uber is not alone in its lobbying. The Wall Street Journal reports that executives in industries as diverse as food processing and airlines are all saying their workers should be considered essential and get priority for vaccines.

The New Jersey Economic Development Authority has pushed back its deadline for small businesses to apply for discounts on PPE. The new deadline is Dec. 17. Businesses can receive discounts of nearly 70%.
