President Biden calls on companies to institute vaccination requirements

President Joe Biden is asking companies to still require that their workers get vaccinated though the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the administration’s vaccination-or-test mandate for larger companies. Following the court’s ruling on Thursday, Biden put out a statement calling on business leaders to immediately join those who — including one-third of Fortune 100 companies — have already instituted vaccination requirements to protect their workers, customers, and communities.

Several business groups support the court’s decision, including the National Federation of Independent Business, which called it a welcome relief for small businesses. While the Supreme Court put a halt to the workplace vaccination mandate, it is allowing the Biden administration to move forward with a vaccination mandate for most health care workers in the U.S.

New Jersey residents paid record-high property taxes last year. The average bill was $9,284, according to preliminary estimates from Gov. Phil Murphy’s office. Property taxes increased less than 2% last year, but it was still the second year in a row that property taxes exceeded $9,000. Murphy talked about property taxes in his State of the State address this week, saying that the rate of increase in property taxes has slowed while he’s been in office.

The nonprofit economic development organization Choose New Jersey will soon have a new leader. Wesley Mathews was recently named the incoming president and CEO. Mathews, a foreign service diplomat, believes his background will be an asset as he seeks to attract international companies to the state. He will take over as CEO next month, replacing Jose Lozano.
