Gov. Phil Murphy focused on renewable energy Tuesday during his trip to Ireland. The governor and offshore wind company Ørsted hosted a panel discussion on the topic, while back in New Jersey a big offshore wind conference kicked off the same day in Atlantic City. Industry leaders, government officials and renewable energy companies are gathering to talk about opportunities and challenges in developing the industry. The conference is hosted by the Business Network for Offshore Wind, a national nonprofit. The group’s president and CEO Liz Budock says there’s a need for small and midsize businesses to enter the developing market.

A lawsuit filed against Middlesex Water has been given class-action status by a Superior Court judge in Middlesex County. The lawsuit centers on excessive levels of “forever chemicals” in drinking water and says the company didn’t do enough to alert its customers. Class-action status means all residents affected can join the suit.

Additional money is available for those who are struggling to pay their utility bills. The Murphy administration has announced that the state is to get an additional $12.8 million for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program. Eligibility requirements were expanded for this program, and the state is urging residents in need to apply on the Department of Community Affairs website.
