A new report provides some ammunition for opponents of a possible smoking ban in Atlantic City’s casinos. The independent gambling research firm Spectrum Gaming Group predicts the casino industry would take a financial hit if a ban is enacted; the study was commissioned by the Casino Association of New Jersey. The report projects up to 2,500 jobs could be cut and gaming revenue could fall nearly 11%. Joe Lupo, president of the casino association and the Hard Rock Atlantic City, argues if the ban is enacted, some Atlantic City patrons would go to Pennsylvania to gamble instead. A group of casino workers has been pushing for a smoking ban, which the Legislature is considering once again.

Caesars Entertainment is looking to hire hundreds of employees for openings at its three casinos in Atlantic City — Caesars, Harrah’s and the Tropicana. The company is holding what it calls a National Day of Hiring Thursday. Like a lot of companies, Caesars has struggled to find workers in a tight labor market. Hiring new employees is crucial as Caesars is in the midst of spending millions to renovate its properties and open new restaurants. Positions are available in table games, hotel operations, special events, among other areas. Candidates are encouraged to register for the event, which is being held at the Tropicana, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Amazon is not yet done expanding in New Jersey. The company is now planning a distribution center in Galloway Township. Details were unveiled at a local planning board meeting. According to a report in the Press of Atlantic City, the project will take about a year to build.
