Amazon still faces federal investigations into the deaths of workers in Monroe and Robbinsville

Public hearings on New Jersey’s Energy Master Plan, set for this week, are being delayed. The plan is the road map New Jersey will follow to achieve Gov. Phil Murphy’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2050. Delaying public input will give the Murphy administration more time to consider how to factor in new state and federal policies as well as billions in federal aid dedicated to fighting climate change. The administration points to storms like Sandy and Ida to show how climate change has negatively impacted New Jersey. A federal investigation into the death last summer of an Amazon warehouse employee in Carteret has concluded. Gothamist reports the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cleared Amazon; no health or safety violations were found. Amazon had previously stated the worker who died had a medical condition that he didn’t disclose to supervisors. Federal investigators are still looking into the deaths of two other workers that occurred at Amazon facilities in New Jersey last summer, one in Robbinsville and the other in Monroe.

The U.S. Justice Department is investigating the Abbott Laboratories baby formula plant in Michigan that was shut down for months last year leading to a nationwide baby formula shortage. The probe is centered on conduct at the plant that led to its shutdown, which occurred after some formula was found to be contaminated. Abbott is one of just four companies producing 90% of baby formula in the U.S.
