President-elect Joe Biden has formalized his economic priorities on a newly-launched transition website. He also talks about investing in infrastructure and manufacturing and supporting equal pay legislation, among other things.

A business tradition in New Jersey has been canceled due to COVID-19. The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce has canceled its annual Walk to Washington, which was set to take place in February. Each year since 1937, business and political leaders have been taking the Chamber’s train to Washington, D.C., ending with a reception featuring the state’s congressional delegation. The Chamber said it made the decision based on safety concerns due to the pandemic.

Also Monday, the statewide Chamber joined the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey to announce an initiative aimed at ending economic inequality in the business community. John Harmon, chief executive officer and president of the African American Chamber, says the organizations will urge New Jersey business leaders to put more African Americans on their boards, to hire and lend to more Black-owned businesses.

Starting Tuesday, businesses and nonprofits with 100 or fewer employees may be able to get a bigger discount on their purchases of personal protective equipment. They’ll be able to apply to the state Economic Development Authority for an additional 25% discount on personal protective equipment (PPE). Currently, businesses can receive a 10% discount on PPE purchased through a state partnership with several stores including Staples, Office Depot and Boxed.
