The governor is known for his combative Jersey style. But in New Hampshire, instead of tussling with town hall attendees, he punched away at the president yesterday and may do it again tomorrow. NJTV News Correspondent David Cruz is in Manchester, N.H.
What’s the governor doing in New Hampshire?
“I guess you could say that he’s doing nothing less than trying to reboot his presidential campaign. I mean it’s no accident that he’s here in New Hampshire. He’s going to have a town hall tomorrow. He had one yesterday and interestingly enough he did not have the same kind of confrontation in New Hampshire [that he had in New Jersey],” Cruz said. “So it kind of raises the question why is he even doing New Jersey town halls? But I guess he’s the governor, right?”
Many are wondering if Chris Christie is any closer to making an announcement about the presidential race. This morning on the Today Show, Matt Lauer asked Christie that but he didn’t provide an answer.
“I guess the answer is eventually,” Cruz said. “He says it’s really early in the game. In fact, the game hasn’t even started yet, he said. What’s he waiting for is another question. It’s possible that he may be looking at what potential repercussions there may be from any indictments that are announced either this week or next week by the U.S. Attorney regarding the scandal at the George Washington Bridge.”
Christie’s New Hampshire trip may be helping with his image. Cruz said, “We had some reporting yesterday about the town hall and a few people who talked to some reporters had gone in undecided and came out Christie fans. And as we were setting up today, a columnist for a local business newspaper came and talked to us. He was from New Jersey originally. He said that he was unimpressed by Christie until he heard his suggestions and his recommendations on Medicare and Medicaid reform yesterday.”
