From gold bars and sweeping indictments to surprising U.S. Senate campaigns, New Jersey had its fair share of big political moments this year. And it looks like 2024 will be equally momentous, if not more so.

What can New Jerseyans expect in the new year, including from a hotly contested U.S. Senate race and emerging campaigns for the governor’s race in 2025?

“I think the [Republican] Party will have a decision to make as to where we want to go as a party in this state,” said GOP strategist Chris Russell.

Micah Rasmussen, director of the Rebovich Institute for New Jersey Politics at Rider University, added, “I think that some of these House candidates — like Josh Gottheimer and Mikie Sherrill — they’ve got a big decision to make first: Are they even running for election in 2024, or are they going to try to focus all that energy on the governor’s race?”
