Biden introduces new rule to crack down on ‘ghost guns’

The president said it's time to close federal loophole allowing parts to be sold without serial numbers

The White House is attempting to crack down on so-called ghost guns, which are working guns made from kits and often sold online. President Joe Biden on Monday said it’s time to close a federal loophole allowing the parts to be sold without serial numbers, making them virtually untraceable and a growing problem for U.S. law enforcement — as “ghost guns” are increasingly tied to violent shootings.

A new rule would classify the kits as “firearms,” which require commercial manufacturers to include serial numbers with them. The rule would also require commercial sellers of those kits to be federally licensed and perform background checks.
