Unemployment remains a major problem in Atlantic City. So Mayor Marty Small recently launched a job training program that’s so much more than getting seats in chairs. The program finds suitable employment for people with no degrees, with criminal backgrounds, or those who need to pick up a second or third shift to make ends meet. Program director Marcus Wilson says there’s a job for everyone, at every level and for every age.

“I try to place you with [a job] that you’re qualified to do. There’s a mix demographically and in the age range. A lot of the older people haven’t really been coming in — fifty-five and up, I haven’t seen a lot of those. The youth, a lot of them have been coming. People in their thirties and twenties have been in here trying to get a job,” said Wilson.
