Atlantic City casinos say guns not allowed

Casino owners assert their right as private property owners to ban firearms

The Casino Association of New Jersey announced Monday that all casino visitors will need to leave their guns at home. The president of the association this week said owners of the nine casinos in Atlantic City are issuing their own firearms ban and exercising their right as private property owners.

Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law in December reforming the state’s concealed-carry regulations, banning guns in casinos and other so-called sensitive places. But a federal judge last week issued a temporary restraining order keeping parts of the law from taking effect, saying the law faces constitutional issues. Second Amendment advocates and other groups who have challenged the law immediately criticized the casinos’ decision.

It’s the latest chapter in what has become a massive legal fight over the U.S. Supreme Court’s New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen decision last summer, which made it easier for gun owners to obtain a carry permit.
