Millions of dollars are heading to the Atlantic City International Airport. U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez Monday helped unveil roughly $5 million in federal funding projects that will go toward airport operations. The money is part of the federal government funding bill that passed Congress in December and will be used — in part — to pay for design costs of a new taxiway at the airport, access to a proposed cargo terminal and developing new technologies associated with autonomous vehicles that would operate around the airport.
Menendez (D-NJ) joined representatives from the South Jersey Transportation Authority and National Aerospace Research and Technology Park, who said the projects will create new jobs and help local small businesses. More than $8 million in federal funding was recently allocated to the Air National Guard’s 17th Fighter Wing for upgrades to its base, located in Atlantic City. It’s considered among the most important bases in the country.
