Sen. Ed Durr recently introduced a package of bills that would lessen some gun restrictions in New Jersey, including a measure that would eliminate the 30-day waiting period for handgun purchases; another would remove capacity limits for magazines. Durr (R-Gloucester), who said current laws end up punishing law-abiding citizens and not criminals, said he knows his bills have no chance of advancing in a Democratic-controlled Legislature.
Meanwhile, some legislators are working with Gov. Phil Murphy to enact tougher control measures, including requiring gun owners to lock up their firearms and raising the minimum age to purchase shotguns and rifles.
