New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin filed civil rights complaints Thursday following the passage of new gender policies by three boards of education in Monmouth County that require school staff to notify parents if their children are trans, nonbinary or gender-nonconforming,
Platkin filed complaints against school boards in Manalapan-Englishtown, Marlboro and Middletown and filed motions in Superior Court to halt the implementation of the policies while the challenges are pending.
“These policies that target people on the basis of their sexual orientation or gender identity violate our law,” Platkin said. “We’ve been saying that courts have agreed with us, and ultimately they will not stand. But what they will do is stigmatize and hurt children who are identifying as openly gay or LGBTQ+ or having gender identity issues.”
