A knot of protesters rallied in front of Central Regional High School in Bayville, demanding justice for 14-year-old Adriana Kuch. Kuch died by suicide on Feb. 3, days after a video of her being attacked in school by classmates spread over social media.
Kuch wasn’t the only bullying victim, according to 17-year-old Brianna O’Brien. She told reporters, “The same thing happened to me, but I reached out to someone for help instead of going through with it. And I feel everyone that is feeling like this needs someone out there that cares.” O’Brien’s father, Sean, said he had seen “countless fight videos — the whole nine — out of this school,” including on social media. “They need to come up with a working change, because what they’re doing obviously doesn’t work,” he said.
Central Regional’s Board of Education did not reply to our request for comment, but said in a statement earlier that it is “evaluating all current and past allegations of bullying.” A meeting of the board, scheduled for Thursday night, has been moved to the high school auditorium, anticipating a large turnout.
