After the indictment of former President Donald Trump at Manhattan Criminal Court Tuesday, what happens next?
Alain Sanders, professor emeritus of political science at Saint Peter’s University, explains that after this “unprecedented event in United States history,” attorneys for Trump will digest the indictment. “And they’re going to be probably planning all kinds of motions, first to throw out the indictment altogether, but then combing through it to see what kind of motions they can make to derail or to slow down the process of this case,” Sanders said. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will also have to give the defense team “all the incriminating evidence they have obtained and gathered, but also any exculpatory evidence.”
With the next in-person court hearing set for Dec. 4, what effect could the case have on the 2024 presidential election campaign, given the former president has already declared his candidacy? Professor Sanders discusses the possibilities.
