Advocates push for early vaccination of people with disabilities

Telehealth services help but can be challenging for many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Advocates in New Jersey are growing anxious about access to COVID-19 vaccines for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. They’re pressing the state for answers over whether this vulnerable population will be included in the first or second phase of COVID-19 inoculations, known as 1A and 1B.

Their worries come at a time when those with developmental and intellectual disabilities have become isolated during the pandemic, with health needs going unmet. And while telehealth services help, they pose a challenge for many people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Correspondent Leah Mishkin reports.
