Just coming out the door and I shoveled twice last night, just to try and clear some of the snow off the sidewalk. Got another, I don’t know, eight to 12 inches overnight. The Island has been hit with about 12 to 24 inches, out on Mattituck on the east end of Long Island, they got hit the worst.
Nothing on the roads yet here in our neighborhood. A lot of snow blowers, people trying to dig themselves out.
The snow is not too heavy yet. If it warms up, it’s going to get real heavy. So I’m trying to get it out before that happens. The plows have already gone by here, at least once because they plowed me in a little bit.
I’m going to take the car out and see how the roads are, go down to the Rockville Centre train station and see what’s going on down there.
The travel ban has been lifted. There aren’t any cars on the road, except for me. I’m going about 15 mph. I got a four wheel drive, so it’s not too bad. Most of the snow has been cleared up. The major thoroughfare is already here in Rockville Centre. And we expect that there will be more plows coming through and more people getting back to normal relatively soon.
I’m standing on a snow bank in Downtown Rockville Centre. Typically this is a real busy place — lots of people on the street, lots of traffic. It’s right across the street from the Long Island Rail Road station.
Today no one is here. No traffic. Everything is shut down. The only thing that’s moving right now is the guy with the snow blower clearing the way for the Long Island Rail Road across the street.
On the platform here, the Long Island Rail Road station in Rockville Centre, the trains are running already on a reduced schedule. On a Sunday schedule. It’s going to be a little sporadic. I wouldn’t count on anything being too much on time today but the trains are running. There are a few people down on the platform, I can see.
The plows are starting to come through on the streets here and do a little bit more of clean up. So things should get back to normal by commute hours tomorrow.
So the clean-up continues here on Long Island. This is a commuter lot for the Long Island Rail Road. As you can see the plows are working, trying to get things back to normal for tomorrow morning’s commute. The storm was a heavy storm, especially out on the eastern part of Long Island. Here in Rockeville Centre, not so bad.
