New Jerseyans live longer than most, with a life expectancy at birth of 79 years, tied with New York at fourth highest in the country, according to the CDC’s 2021 report. Hawaii had the highest expectancy at 79.9 years, and Mississippi the lowest at 70.9 years.
Diving deeper into the National Vital Statistics System data, the life expectancy gap between New Jersey men and women is in the middle of the pack, with women from the Garden State expected to live to 81.6 years or 5.3 years longer than men at 76.3. New Mexico has the widest gap at 7.6 years, and Utah has the narrowest at 3.9 years.
