Public libraries in New Jersey (2022)

Often town by town, New Jersey’s public libraries has been deep in debate over book restrictions and the rules for including or excluding books from circulation. And it could take while.

Overall, there were 294 public libraries in New Jersey as of 2022, the tenth most of any state in the country, according to the Institute of Museum and Library Services. New York has the most at 755. New Jersey is also in the top 10 when it comes to visits (21.8 million) and card holders (3.9 million).
