As New Jersey scales back its tax incentives for electric vehicle sales, the numbers have been on the rise in the state.

According to the state Department of Environmental Protection, electric vehicles made up 12.2% of all new vehicle sales in New Jersey in 2023. That’s up from 8% in 2022 and less than 2% in 2019. Still, despite the increase in share in car sales, they remain less than 3% of all cars on the state’s roads.
