A state law on the books requires New Jersey school districts and municipalities to provide copies of their labor contracts for public review, yet it appears only some are complying.

In fact, 64% of school districts and 27% of municipalities failed to provide the contracts as required to the Public Employment Relations Commission as of the end of 2021, according to the Office of the State Comptroller’s report released this week.

This is a big drop from a decade ago when 97 percent of municipalities and over 80 percent of school districts complied, according to the OSC. Still, the report said 69 districts and 12 municipalities have not provided their contracts at all in that time.
