Much attention has been given to the dramatic rise in bias incidents in New Jersey over the last several years, with the state Legislature now deliberating new rules for how police investigate the cases.
A big step has been in the Murphy administration’s tracking of the incidents one by one, with the state’s dashboard listing 7.4 alleged incidents per day — yes, per day — in the state since the start of the year. They have taken place in 312 communities, representing more than half of the state’s cities and towns.
