With hurricane season in full swing — and the latest bearing down on Florida — we can only hope that New Jersey will be spared. The state, of course, has had its ample share of severe weather, with 14 declared federal disasters in the last 12 years, according to a new report from Rebuild by Design, a nonprofit that tracks natural disasters and recovery efforts.
As bad as these disasters have been for New Jersey, that number is less than half the 34 in California during the time, followed by Tennessee (28) and Oklahoma (27), according to the report. New Jersey’s most recent declared disaster was a year ago this summer, with the mid-July severe storms and flooding that hit especially hard in Warren County.
