Decrease in the amount of blueberries harvested in New Jersey, 2023

July 1, 2024 | Number of The Day

With blueberry season upon us, New Jersey’s vaunted blueberry industry will be looking for a rebound after taking a hit last year. The federal Department of Agriculture last week released the latest data, which showed New Jersey’s blueberry production for 2023 dropped 5% from the previous year, with 648 million pounds grown and harvested at a value of $92 million. In a national market that has also seen a slump in blueberry production, New Jersey is the fifth highest among states in harvested acres for the fruit, at more than 10,000. By that count, the nation’s top blueberry producer is Georgia at over 20,000 acres.
