‘Ghost guns’ so far seized in New Jersey in 2024

July 8, 2024 | Number of The Day

New Jersey is among 23 states that have filed an amicus brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Garland v. VanDerStok that seeks to impose new regulations on “ghost guns.” The untraceable weapons are typically made at home with kits and/or using 3D printers and often used in multiple crimes.

In a legal brief released by state Attorney General Matthew Platkin last week, the state reported 100 “ghost guns” so far seized in New Jersey criminal investigations in 2024, most of them involving someone who could not buy a gun legally. The good news is that is half the number seized during the same period last year, but the presence of the guns overall has risen sharply in recent years.
