We’re still a year out from New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial election, but the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission has started setting the latest rules for campaign finance in what is sure to be an expensive contest. Chief among them is a donation limit to individual candidates of $5,800, up from $4,900 four years ago. That is just one of several specific limits and thresholds that were released by the commission last week, including the total amounts that can be spent by candidates if they are to receive public funds. The limit for the general election for those candidates will be $18.5 million, and $8.7 million for the primary election.
