On the eve of Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement last week of a new task force to look at problem gambling in the state, his attorney general’s office also released its latest gambling revenue totals for in-state casinos, racetracks and their partners.
The latest statistics showed the industry is alive and well, with a 13.1% increase in revenue so far this year, and an overall $2.57 billion collected to date through the end of May, according to the state. All of the main categories saw continued increases in May, except for sports betting, which saw a slight drop for the month but still is far outpacing last year’s revenues overall.
