Almost three in 10 New Jersey residents say they would only vote for a candidate who is in line with them on abortion. That’s according to the latest poll in the New Jersey Health Matters series by the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute in partnership with the Rutgers-Eagleton Poll.
The poll found 28% of New Jerseyans said they would only vote for a like-minded candidate, 50% said abortion was one of many issues that matter to them, and 16% said it was not an important issue for them.
Overall, 48% of New Jersey residents who were polled said abortion should be “legal in all cases” and another 31% said they favored legalization in “most cases.” Twelve percent said abortion should be “illegal in most cases,” and 4% said it should be “illegal in all cases.” Three-quarters of respondents said they were concerned about bans on abortion causing unnecessary health issues.
Results are from a statewide poll of 1,512 adults from March 26 to April 8. The full sample has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
