Estimate of NJ residents who will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2024

While the five-year survival rate for lung cancer has increased by over 50% over the past decade, lung cancer is still the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

May 6 – 12 is Lung Cancer Action Week, when the American Lung Association seeks to raise awareness about the disease and actions people can take to prevent lung cancer and detect it earlier. This week, iconic landmarks, including in New Jersey — like the Bell Works Water Tower in Holmdel and the lower Trenton Toll Bridge — will be illumianted in turquoise “to shine the light on lung cancer,” according to the association.

It is estimated that more than 5,600 New Jersey residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2024, according to the American Lung Association. To protect yourself and your family and support those with lung cancer, the association recommends these actions:
