Trout stocked in NJ waters this spring season

April 4, 2024 | Number of The Day

Trout season opens on Saturday, April 6, marking the beginning of spring for eager anglers in New Jersey. Waterways will have over 180,000 rainbow trout and broodstock, bolstered by the state’s Pequest Trout Hatchery. Over half a million rainbow trout will be stocked in New Jersey waters by the end of spring.

“The Pequest Hatchery staff work extremely hard to ensure the trout stocked are of the highest quality for anglers. I encourage everyone to head out to their favorite trout stream, or maybe try a new location this year, and enjoy opening day with family and friends,” said Fish & Wildlife Assistant Commissioner Dave Golden.

Anglers can obtain a fishing license on Fish & Wildlife’s website or through a license agent.
