The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development has posted additional business names to the WALL, or the Workplace Accountability in Labor List, a public list of companies that have violated state wage, benefit or tax laws. Fourteen companies were added to the list for failing to resolve outstanding liability issues; collectively, they owe almost $1 million to their employees and the state. The total number of delinquent employers posted on the WALL is now 82.
Businesses receive 20 days’ notice before their names are posted on the WALL, time to pay in full or challenge their listing. State, county, municipal and school procurement officers cross-reference the WALL before awarding public contracts.
“Our Office of Strategic Enforcement and Compliance has a duty to ensure a safe and respectful work environment for New Jersey’s entire workforce,” said OSEC director Peter Basso. “The WALL helps us enforce state labor laws and go after employers who use their leverage to exploit their workers.”
The inaugural list went live in September. Additional businesses with outstanding violations were added in October and November.
