The unemployment rate in New Jersey rose by 0.1% in November, bringing the rate to 4.7%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, total nonfarm employment still increased, growing by 4,100 jobs last month.
Education and health services gained 3,200 jobs, leisure and hospitality gained 2,300, trade and utilities 700 and business services 600. Four sectors recorded job losses: construction, information, other services, and manufacturing.
Between November 2022 and November 2023, New Jersey added a total of 62,700 nonfarm jobs. Five of 9 private-sector industries recorded gains; the education and health services industry saw the most gains — 41,200 jobs.
