Hospitals self-report data on the volume of their emergency department visits, which Becker’s Hospital Review recently analyzed for a listing of the 49 hospitals nationwide with the most ER visits in 2022.

The busiest ER was at Parkland Health and Hospital System in Dallas with 226,178 visits. Also in the top five were Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Florida (199,927); Multicare Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Washington (162,390); Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Virginia (162,33) and Yale New Haven Hospital, Connecticut (147,385). Most hospitals saw increased visits in 2022, according to Becker’s Review.

A New Jersey hospital was 10th on the list: Hackensack University Medical Center reported 133,190 visits to its emergency department in 2022. Becker’s list of the 49 busiest ERs also includes two other New Jersey locations — the 23rd busiest ER was at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson (112,215) and in 35th place was Morristown Medical Center (103,674).
