September marks apple-picking season in New Jersey, so it’s time to start snapping and tell those apples to say “Cheese!” That’s because the Department of Agriculture is promoting the season with a photo and social media contest, not because apples and cheese go well together.

With the hashtag #JerseyFreshApples, apple-pickers can share pictures of their fruit and mention which orchard they were picked at. A weekly winner will be announced each Wednesday, with the reward of a $50 gift card to any Jersey Fresh market. After Oct. 31, an overall winner will be picked and win a grand prize of $250. There are seven weeks left to enter the photo contest.

“The fall season is a great time for families to go out and visit many of our farms that feature pick your own apples and other activities,” Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Joe Atchison said. “This is a great way to highlight our many outstanding orchards and a chance for Jersey Fresh fans to use their creative skills for their own benefit.”
