United Health Foundation’s 11th annual America’s Health Rankings Senior Report found shifts in long-term trends and highlighted disparities between different communities. It also ranked the health of every state based on factors like social and economic factors, physical environment, clinical care, behaviors and health outcomes. In New Jersey, poverty increased since 2019 to 9.4% for those over 65 years old. The rate of multiple chronic conditions also went up by 14% since 2020 for senior citizens. The state ranked at the top of the list was Utah, which had a low poverty rate and a high level of hospice care. Mississippi, on the other hand, ranked at 50, with a high poverty rate, high food insecurity and high early death rates.

The report highlighted drug deaths across the country — which have gone up by 43%. In New Jersey, drug deaths went up by 158%.
